Facilities

To access our facilities, students and members must have a valid membership and present their Emory ID and facility access card. Guests must have a valid daily guest pass and be accompanied by a member at all times while in the facilties.

No outside personal training, exercise or sport instruction is permitted. Only a qualified/certified Emory Athletics and Recreation trainer or instructor may train or instructor in our facilities.

Failure to follow facility policies may result in removal of access to facilities, loss of membership and/or inability to renew membership.

Thunder, Lightning and Wealther-Related Closures

Swimming is not permitted during thunder, lightning, or heavy rain.  In the event of rain, in the absence of thunder and/or lightning, rain or weather affecting visibility will also result in pool closure.

The occurrence of either thunder and/or lightning is not subject to interpretation or discussion. A warning may be issued by either the ThorGuard system or the on-deck Lifeguards. The system does not need to sound for the Lifeguards to issue a warning. When a warning is issued...

  • Lifeguards will clear the deck.
  • All swimmers are expected ro remain off the pool deck and seek shelter until the all clear has been given.  
  • The ThorGuard “All Clear” is designated by the three short horn bursts and stopping of the flashing strobe.
  • The Lifeguards will issue the “All Clear” by waiting 30 minutes after the last observed thunder or lightning.
  • Swimming may not resume until the "All Clear" has been given.

Pool Rules

  • No solo bathing.
  • Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. An adult is at least 18 years old. 
  • Swimming is permitted only when lifeguard(s) are present.
  • No diving in water less than 12 feet deep.
  • Prolonged underwater swimming (for more than 15 seconds) is prohibited.
  • Swim diapers or plastic pants with elastic gathers are required for children who wear diapers. If a child in your care has diarrhea or loose stool, please do not allow the child to use the pools. Do not change diapers poolside. 
  • No running, rough, or boisterous play allowed. 
  • No spitting, spouting of water, blowing nose, or bodily excretion allowed in pools. 
  • Swimming is prohibited if you have an infectious or communicable disease.
  • Bathers with open wounds are advised not to use the pools. 
  • No throwing any objects at any time.
  • Glass, alcohol, drugs, and tobacco products are prohibited.
  • No food or drinks allowed in pool area except sport drinks or water in a spill-proof container. 
  • Personal bluetooth speakers are permitted at a low volume that does not disturb others. Explicit lyrics are prohibited.
  • Hanging or swimming across lane lines is prohibited.
  • Starting blocks are permitted only for competitive and instructional swimming.
  • Swimming or diving instruction may only be conducted by individuals approved by Emory University. 
  • Only approved floatation devices are allowed.
  • Pets are not allowed with the exception of working companion animals.
  • Bathers must wear appropriate swim attire. No cut-off pants, street clothes, or sheer garments permitted. 
  • Please shower and rinse thoroughly before entering the pools. 
  • Lifeguard(s) will provide assistance with the chair lift upon request.
  • The Student Activity and Academic Center is not responsible for valuables or personal property brought to the facility.
  • Lifeguard(s) have final authority.

Kiddie Pool

  • Warning - No Lifeguard on Duty
  • Kiddie pool is CLOSED at this time.
  • Swimming is permitted only when lifeguard(s) are present.
  • Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. An adult is at least 18 years old.
  • No diving in water less than 5 feet deep.
  • Prolonged underwater swimming (for more than 15 seconds) is prohibited.
  • Swim diapers or plastic pants are required for children who wear diapers.
  • Swimming is prohibited if you have an infectious or communicable disease.
  • No throwing any objects at any time.
  • Glass, alcohol, drugs, and tobacco products are prohibited.
  • No food or drinks allowed in pool area except sport drinks or water.
  • Hanging or swimming across lane lines is prohibited.
  • Starting blocks are permitted only for competitive and instructional swimming.
  • Only Coast Guard approved floatation devices are allowed.
  • Pets are not allowed with the exception of working companion dogs.
  • No swimming underneath the bulkhead.
  • Lifeguard(s) will provide assistance with the chair lift upon request.
  • The Woodruff P. E. Center is not responsible for valuables or personal property brought to the facility.
  • Lifeguard(s) have final authority.
  • It is the responsibility of the patron to follow appropriate etiquette and safety practices. Cooperation and courtesy to others should be shown at all times. The following rules have been established to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for our students and members.
  • Exercise at your own risk.
  • Workout/Athletic clothes, including a top and bottom, and shoes are required in indoor activity areas at all times. Clothing with zippers, buttons, and rivets are not allowed on machines with upholstery.
  • Shoes must be closed-toe, closed-heel athletic shoes with non-marking soles. 
  • Do not bring bags into the fitness area.
  • Secure your valuables, clothing and book bags in a locker. The facility is not responsible for any stolen property.
  • Use gym wipes to clean machines and equipment after each use.
  • Return equipment to proper storage area when finished.
  • Amplified sound/music without the use of personal headphones or earphones is prohibited.
  • Limit cell phone use while using equipment and machines.
  • Patrons under age 12 are not allowed in the fitness area.
  • Patrons ages 12 to 15 must be supervised at all times by adult 18 years of age or older.
  • Personal training, coaching or leading in exercise is strictly prohibited unless facilitated by Emory Fitness Staff.
  • Report any malfunctioning equipment to Front Desk.
  • Slamming or dropping of weights or equipment is prohibited.
  • Spitting in drinking fountains is prohibited.
  • Fitness Area closes 15 minutes before building closure.

Johnny R. Miller Fitness Studio

The second floor multi-purpose room may be used by Emory students and Woodruff PE Center (WPEC) members without a reservation, although reservations are also permitted.  Chartered Emory student groups may request reservations in this space, but Fitness Emory classes and Recreation and Wellness activities will have scheduling priority.  Student groups who are interested in booking this space must make the request at least one week in advance. Student groups will not be approved until all Fitness Emory, Health and Wellness, and varsity events have been scheduled.  This is on a semester-by-semester basis.

Workout/Athletic clothes, including a top and bottom, and shoes are required in indoor activity areas at all times. 

Appropriate, non-marking shoes must be worn at all times.  No food or drink is permitted in this space, with the exception of water.

Sound equipment is reserved for Fitness Emory and Recreation and Wellness classes only.  Other groups must supply their own music equipment.

If you walk up for recreational use, or if your group has a reservation, but the space is locked, call the equipment room at 404 727 5614 and ask for the building supervisor to unlock the door.
  • Players should wear appropriate tennis attire, including proper tennis shoes with non-marking soles (no sandals or running shoes) and a shirt at all times. Shirts should cover the entire torso (back, chest, and midriff). 
  • Coaching or leading in tennis instruction is strictly prohibited unless facilitated by Emory Athletics staff or approved programs.
  • Use of courts for purposes other than tennis is prohibited.
  • Clay Courts
  • Players must groom the courts following play with the provided equipment. Please put the broom and line sweep back in its proper location.
  • Shoe cleaners are provided outside each court and should be used in order to keep locker rooms and other areas free from clay court material.
  • Courts may be closed periodically for maintenance, or during inclement weather.
  • Arena (accordion content)
  • Workout/Athletic clothes, including a top and bottom, and shoes are required in indoor activity areas at all times.
  • Non-marking athletic shoes must be worn when participating in athletic activities. Examples of prohibited shoes include, but are not limited to, cleats, sandals, stocking feet and/or hard soled shoes.
  • No hanging on the rims or nets.
  • Spitting on walls or floors is prohibited.
  • No kicking or punting of sport equipment.
  • Badminton and Volleyball have priority on Court 4. Applies only when entire arena is available.
  •  Arena is closed during all varsity practices & competitions.
  • All beverages must be in a twist top bottle. Food may only be consumed at designated events.
  • For safety purposes, place all personal items in day use lockers. The Department of Athletics is not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen items. Patrons should inquire about lost items and report suspected thefts to the staff.
  • All incidents and injuries must be immediately reported to a staff member.
  • Disorderly conduct, abuse of the facility, equipment, or staff and/or disregard for the physical education centers' policies will result in immediate dismissal from the facility. Additional sanctions may include: disciplinary action, reimbursement for damages, and/or potential suspension from the facilities and programs.

It is the responsibility of the patron to follow appropriate etiquette and safety practices. Cooperation and courtesy to others should be shown at all times. The following rules have been established to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for our students and members.

  • Utilize the multi-sport courts at your own risk.
  • Workout/Athletic clothes, including a top and bottom, and shoes are required in indoor activity areas at all times. 
  • Shoes must be closed-toe, closed-heel athletic shoes with non-marking soles.
  • Only beverages in a plastic bottle with a secured lid or squirts out are permitted.
  • No food or gum permitted.
  • Abuse of equipment (e.g. hanging on the rims, throwing balls at the windows, spitting, using profane language, fighting, etc.) is prohibited and could result in the suspension of your facility access.
  • The multi-sport courts are an informal recreation area that is first come, first served for play.
  • Secure your valuables, clothing and book bags in a locker. The facility is not responsible for any stolen property.
  • For volleyball or badminton set-up please ask the facility staff for assistance.
  • Patrons under the age of 16 must be supervised at all times by an adult over the age of 18.
  • This area closes 15 minutes before building closure.
  • The Student Activity and Academic Center asks that all patrons cooperate with these policies and procedures at all times to ensure safety in the facility.
  • The Student Activity and Academic Center Recreation field and the surrounding property are for use by Emory University students, faculty, staff, and current SAAC members.
  • All users must have valid Emory ID cards, and all guest must be accompanied by a valid Emory user. Users must present valid Emory ID upon request.
  • Events on the field must be reserved and approved through the Student Activity and Academic Center. Playing on or use of closed fields will result in loss of field privileges.
  • No pets, glass, metal containers, alcohol, golfing, baseball or softball permitted on the recreation field.
  • No cleats on the field unless part of an approved recreation program or athletic event. Student Activity and Academic Center email: saac@emory.edu
  • Violators may be charged with trespassing

Varsity practices, Club Sports events and Intramural activities will have scheduling priority. Student groups who are interested in booking this space must make the request at least two weeks in advance, complete the WPEC Space Reservation Form (located in facility reservations) and submit a Smartkey account number to secure the reservation. Student groups will not be approved until all varsity practices, club sports events and intramural activities have been scheduled. This is on a semester-by-semester basis. When the field is not reserved it is available on a walk-up basis.

All participants, without exception, must be fee paying Emory students or members of the Woodruff PE Center (WPEC). Guests must be accompanied by Emory students or WPEC members and are subject to paying guest fees.

All field users must present their Emory ID card upon request by Athletics personnel, Recreation and Wellness staff or Emory Police Department officers.

Emory University reserves the right to close the fields to all activity based on weather events and field conditions. Violators who use the fields during a closure will be subject to losing field-use privileges. Groups are strongly recommended to find an alternate site in case of field closure.

Participants using the field for recreational purposes do not have access to the field lights, scoring devices or soccer goals.

During a reservation by a student group, if any trash is left behind or damages occur in the space, the student group’s Smartkey will be charged for clean-up and repair.

If your Emory student-run event involves participants not affiliated with Emory, a group representative must meet with the Associate Director of Athletic Facilities or their designee to discuss the event in advance and receive approval. Guest pass purchases or a rental fee may be required. Violations of this policy could result in the chartered group losing its Kaminsky space reservation privileges for at least a semester.

From mid-August to mid-May, space usage at Kaminsky Park is limited to Emory students and WPEC members only. For summer field rental, contact the Coordinator, Memberships and External Operations, at 404-727-6733.

Vehicles that are parked outside of designated spaces at Kaminsky Park are subject to ticket or towing. Vehicles are not allowed on the fields.

The following are prohibited at Kaminsky Park at Candler Fields: smoking, smokeless tobacco products, pets, glass bottles, staked tents and alcoholic beverages.

  • Non-marking athletic shoes must be worn when participating in athletic activities. Examples of prohibited shoes include, but are not limited to, cleats, sandals, stocking feet and/or hard soled shoes.
  • No hanging on the rims or nets.
  • Spitting on walls or floors is prohibited.
  • No kicking or punting of sport equipment.

The indoor track is available for Emory students and Woodruff P.E. Center members for open use. Recreation and Wellness classes and varsity track practices will take precedence over recreational use of the space. Please note the sign at the entrance, as the direction of activity alternates each day.
  • Workout/Athletic clothes, including a top and bottom, and shoes are required in indoor activity areas at all times. Clothing with zippers, buttons, and rivets are not allowed on machines with upholstery.
  • Shoes must be closed-toe, closed-heel athletic shoes with non-marking soles.
  • Spitting on walls or floors is prohibited.
  • All beverages must be in a twist top bottle.
  • Track is closed for all varsity basketball games and volleyball matches. The track may also close during major university-wide events.
  • For safety purposes, place all personal items in day use lockers. The Department of Athletics is not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen items. Patrons should inquire about lost items and report suspected thefts to the staff.
  • Disorderly conduct, abuse of the facility, equipment, or staff and/or disregard for the physical education centers' policies will result in immediate dismissal from the facility. Additional sanctions may include: disciplinary action, reimbursement for damages, and/or potential suspension from the facilities and programs.
  • The outdoor track surrounding the varsity soccer field is available for Emory students and Woodruff PE Center (WPEC) members for open use.  Recreation and Wellness classes and varsity track/soccer practices will take precedence over recreational use of the space.
  • The outdoor track will be closed for all varsity soccer matches and track meets.  You can find the varsity soccer and track meet schedules at www.emoryathletics.com   
  • The track is open during varsity soccer practices for recreational use, but participants must take caution, as errantly hit soccer balls may encroach upon runners and walkers in the track area.
  • Participants may have water bottles on the track, but please no spitting or chewing gum on the track.
    Please do not leave your belongings unattended in the area. 
  • The WPEC staff will not be responsible for lost or stolen items.  Day use lockers are available from the Equipment Room on level one at no charge. 
  • The track is closed periodically during Tuesday nights in the summer months for track meets.  

The racquetball courts on level two of the Woodruff PE Center (WPEC) are available for Emory students and WPEC members for open use.  Recreation and Wellness classes will take precedence over recreational use of the space.  Reservations can be made at https://my.recwell.emory.edu/ 

  • Workout/Athletic clothes, including a top and bottom, and shoes are required in indoor activity areas at all times. Clothing with zippers, buttons, and rivets are not allowed on machines with upholstery.
  • Shoes must be closed-toe, closed-heel athletic shoes with non-marking soles.
  • The courts are open for use during regular WPEC operating hours. All exercise areas will close 15 minutes prior to published building hours.
  • Participants may have water bottles in the court areas, but please no spitting inside or outside the courts. 
  • Participants are expected to wear appropriate athletic attire and footwear in this space, and the use of goggles during play is highly recommended.
  • Please do not leave your belongings unattended in the area.  The WPEC staff will not be responsible for lost or stolen items.  Day use lockers are available from the Equipment Room on level one at no charge. 
  • If the lights are not on in the racquetball court area, visit or call the Equipment Room at 404 727 5614 and ask that the building supervisor turn on the court lights.
  • Coaching or teaching lessons is strictly prohibited, unless it is facilitated by Recreation and Wellness staff.
  • Please refrain from abusive language and loud, boisterous conduct.
  • All belayers must hold a current belay certification through Emory Recreation & Wellness and are required to check-in with a valid ID upon entrance to the climbing arena.
  • Workout/Athletic clothes, including a top and bottom, are required in indoor activity areas at all times.
  • Non-marking, closed toed, athletic or climbing shoes only. No barefoot climbing.
  • Secure loose clothing, jewelry/glasses and remove all objects from pockets before climbing.  Hooded shirts must be removed or the hood must be tucked in.  Rings must be removed from fingers.
  • No food, drink, or gum/candy is allowed in the climbing wall area.
  • All personal equipment must be inspected and approved by the climbing wall staff.
  • Climbing in the climbing wall area outside of regular hours is prohibited.
  • Please be courteous and respectful to other participants.
  • Children 8 yrs. and older are allowed to climb with a parent signed waiver. Parents MUST remain at the climbing wall with their children!
  • Climbing wall staff have the right to ask patrons to leave the climbing wall area for reasons including inappropriate behavior, unsafe actions, disregard of policies, etc.
  • Climb safely and have fun!
